180° Program

Overview

The 180° Faith Based Program is a newly developed educational framework designed to be integrated into faith based organizations, community based settings, churches, Christian schools, targeting middle school and high school age youth. The 180º Program takes the position that social, emotional, and academic growth and learning are "interdependent" and the most effective learning environment is one that intentionally harnesses the "synergy" that results when all of these key components are blended together. Additionally, the180º Program is a "front end" educational strategy that is cost effective and will achieve tangible and measurable results.

The five focal competencies taught and reinforced in successful SEL programming are:

  • Self-awareness
  • Social awareness
  • Responsible decision making
  • Self-management
  • Relationship skills
Research demonstrates SEL has positive effects on academic performance, benefits physical health and wellbeing, improves citizenship, is demanded by employers, is essential for lifelong success, and reduces the risk of maladjustment, failed relationships, interpersonal violence, substance abuse, and unhappiness.

The 180° Program incorporates all five of the core competencies of effective SEL programming and is intended to produce measurable outcomes. The social and emotional character building and life skills that youth will learn in the 180º Program will enhance their academic ability in the school setting. These skills will help youth successfully navigate the increasingly complex and changing dynamics within academics, health, social relationships and personal citizenship.
